As always the children have continued to work hard despite it being the last week of term. We have shown that with collaboration, reflection, resilience and a good handful of curiosity and creativity anything is possible. That was certainly the case as we headed outside this week with our learning. Our task was to plan, map and design an Anglo-Saxon settlement. What better place than under the trees on the field. Foxes used reeds, twigs, small branches and small planked oak to reconstruct their site. We now have two settlements with rustic woven boundary fences and a selection of dwellings with thatched roofs. We are sure any visiting Anglo-Saxon fairy would be more than comfortable with their new home. It is safe to say Foxes thoroughly enjoyed the experience and what better use of the sunshine this week.
In english Foxes honed their persuasive skills as we completed our time travelling leaflet before writing a viking inspired holiday brochure as our final independent piece. This allowed us to link in all we had learnt previously about the Scandinavian countries and it gave us a taste of what is to come in next term’s topic.
There have been more topic inspired homework pieces arriving in school this week. Remember there are house points available for all completed pieces and at the end of the term children ,who have completed homework, will be entered into a raffle for a final prize too. Therefore, with the holidays approaching, it is a perfect time to try out some of the activities.
