This week Hedgehogs have enjoyed the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ with some of us joining in with the words by the end of the week! Outside we used log slices to make a big caterpillar to balance along. When we moved the logs we spotted tiny creepy crawlies hiding underneath and used magnifying glasses to take a closer look. We were impressed with how gentle the children were with the ladybirds in the sandpit.
Hanging in the trees and bushes were colourful wool and ribbon caterpillars for us to collect with our tweezer ‘beaks’. We had a go at making caterpillar bird feeders by threading cereal hoops on to bendy pipe cleaners. It took lots of concentration!
We also enjoyed scooping and pouring seeds into recycled plastic bottles to make feeders for our bird friends. Some of us made binoculars to see what we could spot.
We finished the week by making a cosy den outside. You might want to make a den at home to enjoy some books in – we’d love to see your photos!
Now that we are starting to spend more time outdoors, please could your child come wearing wellies and bring a pair of slippers for indoors.
We look forward to seeing you next week for more fun,
The Hedgehogs team
