It is almost the end of our first half term and although the children are becoming a little tired they are still showing the same enthusiasm for their learning. In maths we have been working on efficient methods to calculate with money. The children have been using money and manipulatives to prove their thinking and reasoning. Some year groups have continued to find efficient methods for addition and subtraction.
Our English topic on diary entries ended with the children independently writing two entries based on a radio broadcast and witnessing first-hand a bombing raid during WWII. They are thoroughly engrossed in the events of the war and this is evident in their writing. Our new book, ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’, will lead into journalist writing which we have started to find more about this week.
Our Topic sessions have centred around the science of ‘Radar’ and Foxes have been researching more about the early use of this important element of detection during WWII. They have also been reenacting how it tracked enemy planes.
Our moods have been lightened with some Harvest song practise ready for next week’s church service. We do hope you will be able to join us for that.
