This week the children wrote independently a shortened version of a scene from the Lion Witch and the Wardrobe and some of the children shared their descriptions with the class. We had some fantastic stories! We have also been looking at grammar and the understanding of past, present and future tense. The children came up with some brilliant sentences and are using irregular verbs with more confidence.
In Maths, some have been learning how and why rounding numbers is so important as an estimating tool. Others have been consolidating their understanding of written methods for addition. It has been great to see how the children are developing their use of mathematical vocabulary to support their understanding.
We are now getting closer to our Christmas performance so the children have been practising their lines and singing the songs. It sounds amazing and the children can’t wait to take to the stage. In order to ignite the Christmas spirit in Horning, many of the children turned out on Thursday evening to celebrate the turning on of Horning’s Village Christmas tree. Three of our lucky Art Competition winners had the responsibility of switching on the Christmas tree lights as they waved their wands of magic. We have been very busy over the last few weeks practising a variety of carols for the event and they certainly sang their hearts out. Many commented on how fantastic they were – Well Done everyone!
A very cold but festive night at the Village Green.
The winning Art competition entries really do capture the festive season.
