The blustery start to the week saw us harnessing the power of the wind. We made windy wands and enjoyed watching the ribbons dance. Rachel taught us the cow hitch knot so we could tie ribbons to our bikes and scooters. Even our tractor ended up looking fabulous! We blew bubbles and watched the direction the wind carried them. We were inspired by the story ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ where George the Giant gives his shirt to a goat as a sail for a boat. We investigated ways of making little boats using different materials. It was fun to blow the sails and watch them bob along on the water. We discovered conker cases make excellent boats- even when pushed under the water they easily float back up! By the end of the week, the wild wind had been replaced by relentless rain and we were glad of our cosy classroom. To celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week we read the story ‘Elmer’ and reflected on how everyone is special in their own way. We enjoyed expressing ourselves by decorating our own colourful elephants.
