The Macmillan Story Café to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support which was held at Horning Primary and Hedgehog Pre School, Norfolk on 30 September 2022 was a highly successful and thoroughly enjoyable event.
Pupils from the school’s Otter and Fox classes were read the story ‘The Scarecrow’ by author Beth Ferry, with the Horning teaching team of Mrs Bellison, Mrs Cage and Mr Hopkins sharing the story reading.
After the story, the children spent time making felt crows, which involved them using a pattern to cut out crows before stitching and sticking sequins to their birds. These crows will be used to decorate a scarecrow, dressed in Horning Primary School uniform, which is being made by the school to enter into the Wroxham Barns Scarecrow competition.
Deputy Executive Head Teacher David Hopkins was pleased with the support for the event, saying:
“Many children in school had at least one adult join them at the Story Café, and it was good to see children and parents working collaboratively making the crows.
“A wide variety of delicious cakes were donated by parents and staff, and the event raised £52 for Macmillan Cancer Support. It was great that the school could be a part of the ‘world’s biggest coffee morning’, and the Story Café created a lovely atmosphere.”
